FLASHBACK: Trump Proposed Making Juneteenth a National Holiday LAST YEAR…

As part of former President Trump’s proposed “Platinum Plan” announced last year that looked to provide aid to the black community in a number of ways, he proposed making Juneteenth a national holiday.
The Platinum Plan placed its foundation on four pillars including opportunity, security, prosperity, and fairness, all aimed at improving and addressing concerns in black communities across the United States.
Among many concrete proposals laid out by the plan, one of which was to make Juneteenth a National Holiday. People have lauded President Biden for signing the holiday into official creation, yet forget that Trump had proposed to do the same.
In addition to the symbolic gesture, Trump also looked to make concrete improvements in the community by “growing minority owned businesses with additional tax cuts to stimulate hiring and investment.”
He also looked to address employment concerns, to reach historic levels of employment by “examining barriers to employment including fees, occupational licensing, arrest record inaccuracy and expungement” and “Increasing activity in opportunity zones including benefits for local hires.”
Trump also stated that he would “Continue to make historic improvements to the criminal justice system through common sense actions like the First Step Act, including increase use of drug rehabilitation vs. drug incarceration.”
Trump’s Platinum Plan was inspired in part by a plan proposed by rapper Ice Cube, called the Contract for Black America. Trump worked closely with Ice Cube to create this proposal after reading Ice Cube’s plan.
