Testing the Difficulty of Making a Shot at 70 Yards with an AR-15
by Larry Johnson at SONAR 21
I decided to conduct my own test of demonstrating that the shot Thomas Matthew Crooks took at Trump on July 13 is not something that an amateur, who is a crappy shooter, can easily do. I halved the distance — instead of shooting from 140 yards, we shot from 70 yards using a standing benchrest position. Comparably stable to the prone position used by Crooks.
My dear friend, Warren, accompanied my. As you will see in the second video, he missed the target on this round. I will note that on a subsequent round of five shots, he outscored my. So the misses in this video does not indicate that he is a terrible shooter. Anyone can have a subpar performance.
We did three tests. First, we fired five shots in three seconds (we were on a timer). Those results were terrible. All of my shots were above the point where I aimed. In other words, my dot was placed in the middle of the target head but the shots landed about 6 inches above. Here’s the video.
