On Wednesday, Biden announced that the United States would be sending a $100 million aid package to Gaza and the West Bank.
“Today I am also announcing $100 million in new US funding for humanitarian assistance in both Gaza and the West Bank,” Biden said in Tel Aviv. “This money will support more than one million displaced in the conflict affecting Palestinians including emergency needs in Gaza.”
Biden said that he had spoken with the Israeli cabinet in the morning, and requested that they “agree to the delivery of lifesaving humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza. Based on the understanding that there will be inspections and that the aid should go to civilians, not to Hamas, Israel agreed that humanitarian assistance can begin to move from Egypt to Gaza.”
“Let me be clear: If Hamas diverts or steals the assistance, they will have demonstrated once again that they have no concern for the welfare of the Palestinian people and it will end. As a practical matter, it will — it will stop the international community from being able to provide this aid.”
This comes as the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) wrote a since-deleted post on X that they had received reports of people claiming they were from the Hamas-run health ministry loading supplies onto trucks, the Times of Israel reported.
