Danville police are at the scene of an incident at the Professional Building on Main Street downtown in which City Councilman Lee Vogler was attacked and set on fire.
Andrew Brooks, publisher owner at Showcase Magazine, confirmed the incident in a social media video.
A man forced his way into the office with a five-gallon container of gasoline, poured the gas on Vogler and chased him out of the building and set him on fire, Brooks said in the video.
Vogler identified the man, but Brooks could not confirm the individual’s real name.
“Lee is awake and talking and en route to the burn center in Lynchburg,” Brooks said. “Our hearts and prayers are with him.”

NEW: Virginia city councilman Lee Vogler set on fire after an unhinged lunatic doused him with fuel at his workplace.
29-year-old Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes is accused of carrying out the attack.
Hayes allegedly confronted the Danville City councilman at his office at Showcase Magazine before dumping a 5-gallon bucket of gas on him.
Vogler then ran out of the office but was followed by Hayes, who was then able to set him on fire.
“Lee is awake and talking, and is en route to the burns center in Lynchburg,” Showcase Magazine publisher Andrew Brooks said.
According to police, the attack “stems from a personal matter.”
