House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has set the date for when Rep. Liz Cheney will face removal from her leadership position. The vote is being scheduled for Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.
McCarthy said it was clear that he and his GOP colleagues “need to make a change.” He made the remarks Monday in a letter to Republican lawmakers, according to the AP.
“McCarthy has signaled his desire to remove Cheney for several weeks,” the AP added. “His Monday note seemed designed to provide whatever cover wavering GOP lawmakers might need to toss Cheney from her position.”
“If we are to succeed in stopping the radical Democratic agenda from destroying our country, these internal conflicts need to be resolved so as to not detract from the efforts of our collective team,” McCarthy remarked. “Having heard from so many of you in recent days, it’s clear that we need to make a change. As such, you should anticipate a vote on recalling the Conference Chair this Wednesday.”
Rep. Liz Cheney is almost certainly done in Wyoming politics after the mid-term elections. She may now also be finished in House leadership.
The third-ranking Republican in the House minority, a frequent critic of former President Trump, is seeing the possibility of remaining in her position plummet after Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s appearance on Fox News Sunday.
“House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy officially endorsed Rep. Elise Stefanik to become the GOP’s next House Republican conference chair during a Fox News appearance Sunday,” Axios reported. On Tuesday, McCarthy was caught on a ‘hot mic’ trashing Cheney.
“I think she’s got real problems,” McCarthy said ahead of a Fox & Friends interview. “I’ve had it with … I’ve had it with her. You know, I’ve lost confidence. … Well, someone just has to bring a motion, but I assume that will probably take place.”
Donald Trump on Wednesday made a public endorsement to replace Cheney with Rep. Elise Stefanik.
“Liz Cheney is a warmongering fool who has no business in Republican Party Leadership,” Trump said. “We want leaders who believe in the Make America Great Again movement, and prioritize the values of America First. Elise Stefanik is a far superior choice, and she has my COMPLETE and TOTAL endorsement for GOP Conference Chair. Elise is a tough and smart communicator!”
Another top-ranking Republican, Minority Whip Steve Scalise, concurred with Trump’s pick to replace Cheney with Stefanik.
“Rep. Steve Scalise, the House GOP whip, also is backing Stefanik for Cheney’s post, said Scalise spokesperson Lauren Fine,” the AP reported. “The Louisiana Republican’s was the first explicit call from House GOP leadership to oust Cheney from her leadership job.”
In April, Donald Trump blasted Liz Cheney for continuing her political crusade against the former president.
“Liz Cheney is polling sooo low in Wyoming, and has sooo little support, even from the Wyoming Republican Party, that she is looking…
