Trump cracked down on birth tourism in his first term, but a concerning loophole makes his crackdown useless
TENS of thousands of ultra-rich Chinese nationals are using a disturbing surrogate loophole to automatically secure their kids a US passport, according to reports.
The so-called “rent-a-womb” ploy has sparked fresh concerns over the birthright citizenship policy that’s been challenged by President Donald Trump.
Since his first term in office, Trump has taken aim at birth tourism – which is the practice of a woman traveling to another country to conceive so her baby will have dual citizenship.
In 2020, Trump imposed new visa rules that ordered immigration agents to interrogate visibly pregnant women about their stay before they can enter the country.
Expecting women now must prove that they’re traveling to the US to give birth for medical reasons and not just so their baby can automatically be an American.
