Only days after Hunter Biden announced that the U.S. Attorney’s office in Delaware is investigating his tax affairs, new information has come to light revealing that Attorney General William Barr knew about the probe since the spring. According to a recent report, Barr made sure that information about the investigation did not become public.
The Wall Street Journal reported that “Attorney General William Barr has known about a disparate set of investigations involving Hunter Biden’s business and financial dealings since at least this spring, a person familiar with the matter said, and worked to avoid their public disclosure during the heated election campaign.”
A person familiar with the matter told the Journal that he did not provide information regarding the investigation to congressional Republicans. Two people close to the story stated that along with the investigation in Delaware, federal prosecutors in Manhattan are also looking into Hunter Biden’s business dealings and finances.
Former Vice President Joe Biden, Hunter’s father, is not yet suspected of wrongdoing and has not been implicated in either investigation.
Throughout the presidential campaign, President Trump and his allies frequently urged Barr to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Hunter Biden. Trump said the attorney general “got to appoint somebody. This is major corruption and this has to be known about before the election.”
Hunter Biden released his own statement on the matter. “I take this matter very seriously but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisors,” he said.
Barr may have kept a lid on the investigations to avoid breaking a Justice Department rule. The Washington Times noted that “Justice Department guidelines prohibit disclosing or opening politically-charged investigations within 60 days of a presidential election. It’s possible that Mr. Barr was worried of running afoul of that rule.”
In the lead up to the presidential election, the corporate press avoided reporting on Hunter Biden’s shady business dealings. Indeed, in the rare moments when they deigned to weigh in on the story, they did their best to discredit it and convince their audience to believe that Hunter was pure as the driven snow.
Even social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook tried to scuttle the story. Twitter prohibited the story from being shared on its site. It seems that the entire radical leftist machine was bent on concealing the story so that it would not affect the result of the election.
Barr may have been trying to follow Justice Department rules to avoid a Comeyesque situation. But the media has no excuse. While they did not know about the investigations, they knew that Hunter Biden was engaged in behavior about which the public deserved to know. Instead of doing their jobs, they chose to influence, rather than inform, the nation about the matter…
