Chinese officials believe that President-elect Joe Biden will “restore normalcy” in US-China relations — claiming that “a new window of hope” is opening with the exit of the uncompromising Trump administration.
“China-US relations have come to a new crossroads, and a new window of hope is opening,” Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in an interview with state-owned broadcaster CGTN.
“We hope that the next US administration will return to a sensible approach, resume dialogue with China, restore normalcy to the bilateral relations, and restart cooperation,” he went on.
The Trump administration took a hardline approach to the Communist nation, engaging in a tariff-driven trade war in 2018 and signing sanctions this year over China’s elimination of Hong Kong autonomy.
