“Sorry Dr. Fauci and other fearmongers,” physician and Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) says, touting newly-released findings of a study on the effectiveness of vaccines and naturally-acquired immunity against COVID-19 variants.
“Sorry Dr Fauci and other fearmongers, new study shows vaccines and naturally acquired immunity DO effectively neutralize COVID variants,” Sen. Paul tweeted Sunday.
“Good news for everyone but bureaucrats and petty tyrants!” Sen. Paul added, linking to a research letter, “Neutralizing Antibodies Against SARS-CoV-2 Variants After Infection and Vaccination,” published March 19, 2021 in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
The research focused on three groups of patients hospitalized at Emory University and examined four different COVID variants.
The letter says that results suggest that vaccine and infection-obtained immunity is maintained in the face of COVID variants:
“This study found neutralizing activity of infection- and vaccine-elicited antibodies against 4 SARS-CoV-2 variants, including B.1, B.1.1.7, and N501Y. Because neutralization studies measure the ability of antibodies to block virus infection, these results suggest that infection- and vaccine-induced immunity may be retained against the B.1.1.7 variant. As additional variants emerge, neutralizing-antibody responses after infection and vaccination should be monitored.
“Limitations include the small sample size, possible selection bias, lack of clinical outcomes, and how neutralization titers correlate with protection.”
As CNSNews.com reported, Sen. Paul and White House Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci clashed in a Senate hearing last Thursday over whether people who have immunity from the coronavirus should still be forced to wear protective masks.
Sen. Paul repeatedly asked Dr. Fauci to cite any evidence…
