It’s been truly amazing to watch how the media determine who deserves to get infected with COVID-19 because they’re “not taking the virus seriously” and who didn’t deserve to get infected but unfortunately did because someone else was “not taking the virus seriously.”
The way cable news anchors and pundits make the distinction is simple: If a given infection occurs in a Republican state or in someone who can be traced to President Trump, the person deserved it. If it takes place in a Democrat or anyone who supports the Black Lives Matter mobs, the person is a sympathetic victim.
Recall That Republican governors Ron DeSantis of Florida and Brian Kemp of Georgia were portrayed by the media as ignorant, irresponsible dopes for being two of the earliest states to relax lockdowns that had shuttered thousands of businesses. Georgians and Floridians resumed some sense of normalcy without statewide mask mandates. Bad!
By contrast, New York, led by Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo, has ended very few restrictions that were placed on businesses, and there is a statewide mandate to wear masks. Good!
Cuomo is endlessly praised by the media who’ve cast him as a steady hand at sea, even as the numbers make clear that New York continues to be one of the worst states for COVID-related deaths, with a higher rate than any other aside from New Jersey. And despite the severe lockdowns, the virus has continued to spread. New York City has seen a surge in new cases, just like so many other places, beginning with Western Europe.
You don’t hear much about Spain (cases up 85%), France (70%), or Italy (210%). No, they’re either ignored or regarded as unfortunate anomalies.
The same for California, another blue state where cases are up 39% despite Gov. Gavin Newsom nearly keeping everyone chained to their beds.
We were lectured for months about how we could have controlled a highly contagious airborne virus if only we had “real” leadership, a president who would “listen to the experts.” The obscene shutdowns in Western Europe, we were told, were what needed to be done to stop the spread…
