Today, Senator Mitch McConnell (R – Kentucky) announced his retirement. McConnell is the longest serving Senator in the U.S. Senate. He was first elected to the Senate in 1985 spending 39 years in various leadership positions including as Senate Majority leader.
McConnell, just like many serving in both the House and Senate, turned his career into being a professional politician lifer. Thirty-nine years later he’s calling it quits as he should given his failing health.
