According to NPR‘s David Folkenflik, Berliner was suspended on Friday for five days without pay for violating policies regarding working for other outlets. NPR journalists are required to obtain permission before providing content to outside news organizations, and while Berliner’s appearance on Chris Cuomo’s NewsNation show was approved, his Free Press article was not.
In a letter to Berliner, NPR said he was being given a “final warning,” and that failure to abide by the policy again would lead to his termination.
