I decided it was time to discuss the Hamas Charter (the 2017 revision) and its implications for the current conflict. You have to ask yourself a question — do the leaders of Hamas embrace the words they adopted or was it just a political ploy? I believe it was the former. The words of this charter clearly express how those who are members of Hamas view Palestine, Israel and the Zionist movement. I am curious what you, the readers, think.
Taken at face value, this document makes it very clear there is no room for a negotiated settlement with Israel. That means there is no alternative but war. If I am missing something here please correct me.
Here is Israel’s conundrum — if Israel tries to destroy Hamas via air and ground attacks inside Gaza it is going to kill a lot of Palestinians who are not Hamas militants. However, the deaths of Palestinians civilians, including Christians who are opposed to Hamas, ends up strengthening Hamas’ position within the Palestinian community…
